First-Year eLearning Orientation

The internet is a powerful tool with regards to enhancement of knowledge and in recognition of this UWC established the eLearning Development and Support Unit (eDSU) in May 2005. In January this year EDSU undertook the first ever orientation session for first year students. The unit was approached by the office of Student Support Services (SSS) under the stewardship of Mr Winston Middleton to introduce students to eLearning services at UWC. During eLearning sessions students were shown how to access the eLearning system, navigate online modules, change their profile pictures and access their emails. The orientation sessions proved so successful that the original EMS postgraduate lab that seats 35 students a session had to be changed to the larger DL3 Lecture Hall. In a separate initiative for the first-year EMS students, requested by lecturer James Kariuki, students were also shown how to create narrated PowerPoints...   More

The eLearning Support and Development Unit

It is the responsibility of the eLearning team to ensure that academics understand the importance of eLearning in education and how it can be used to enhance their face-to-face instruction. 

The eLearning Support team will fulfil the following roles:

  •  Assist and guide staff and students in adapting and converting courses to web-based delivery
  •  Assist staff with integrating various technologies to improve the design and delivery of course content
  • Offer training, support and one-on-one  consultations to both students and staff in using the LMS
